A delightfully creepy read to start out my October with. Reminiscent to me of Coraline, and McCammon's 'Boy's Life', but still very much its own story. My dad loves this book, and I'm glad he recommended it. Lots of wonderful descriptions and humor combined with unsettling undertones and powerful themes. A book I'm sure will leave a mark, although I read it in an evening.

the 0.25th star is from the sentimental element of this childhood staple. a simple but sinister, and magical tale that means so much to me. i remember practically everything from when we read this as a class at age 12. the imagery is creepy and makes my heart sink- really captivating. if you love coraline, you'll definitely like this.
