An enjoyable, easy-to-read book about Amy’s experiences as a paranormal investigator, in particular, as one on her show Kindred Spirits. She does a good job of dispelling common myths about ghost hunting and ghosts, in general. She has a refreshing approach to the unknown that is based in humanity and love.

It was like 13 chapters of behind-the-scenes of my favorite ghost shows. Amy has a unique perspective of respect toward the paranormal. She doesn’t fear it, but embraces it. Seems fitting I finished this on Friday, the 13th.

I really enjoyed Life With the Afterlife. It was an easy read that throughly entertained me. You could hear Amy’s voice as clearly as listening to her podcast, Haunted Road. I loved learning about her beginning ghost experiences as a child and how she got her start on Ghost Hunters. I also loved revisiting her favorite cases (coincidentally my favorite Kindred episodes) and reading a new ghost story at the end of each chapter.

Reading this debut title from Amy Bruni was like having a spooky chat with a friend, because while Life With the Afterlife is the first we’ve seen from Amy the Author, it’s certainly not the first we’ve seen of Amy the Paranormal Investigator.

Admittedly, I’ve followed Amy since her first appearances on television in the mid-2000s and have found her approachable and engaging from the start, despite the unconventional experiences of her career. And that personality and voice carries into her writing. It is clear she really cares about everyone: her readers and her clients (both living and deceased).

The book may be a stretch for those who aren’t familiar with Amy’s work, or consider themselves skeptics of the paranormal. But I do love that the author strives to illustrate that the paranormal is, in its purest sense, quite normal. She isn’t trying to convince anyone to believe in ghosts, and is refreshingly nonjudgmental of where a person may be on the spectrum of beliefs. The way in which she speaks of the dead and equates them to their living selves and to us as the living is profound. Even if you aren’t a believer in the supernatural, the thoughts and interpersonal perspectives Amy shares are applicable in everyday life.

The book is not a “series of scary ghost stories to make you afraid of every noise in your house,” but there are several accounts that might make you say “whoa, creepy!” (If you’ve watched her show, Kindred Spirits, you may recognize some of them). Overall, I enjoyed Life With the Afterlife immensely; it was a perfect spooky season read free of horror, gore or the hysterics commonly associated with ghost books.

Might be more interesting to those who have watched Amy Bruni's show Kindred Spirits. There's a lot of behind the scenes info that I had no context for.

I struggle with reading biographies in general. This was very interesting but would be best for those that are regular viewers of her show(s). I'm sure my sister will love this!

I love the show Kindred Spirits and I am a fan of Amy Bruni's. This book, however, didn't add anything to my love of them and sadly felt like a waste of time.

It was evident the book was short when I picked it up at the store, which I have seen some people complain about. I am absolutely okay with shorter books that pack a punch and get straight to the point. So that didn't deter me.

The chapter titles were snappy and interesting, but the content within them was jumpy and unfocused. The content often didn't match the chapter titles except for a few sentences.

Examples were given from episodes of Kindred Spirits which gave me moments of "oh yeah, I remember that," but didn't add anything extra. I'm guessing that readers who haven't seen the show may not have enough context to make sense of the examples.

Aside from learning about Amy's childhood upbringing in a home with paranormal happenings (covered in the introduction), I didn't get anything from this book. I'm so sad about this!

Editing is desperately needed. Outline it, make it flow, and rely less on show anecdotes that were aired.

Fast read, even by the standards of these kind of books. A lot of interesting ideas that gave me some things to think about.
