The song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
The song of Achilles is another reason why I love historical fiction so much. This book is given through the perspective of Patroclus and exiled boy who goes through a traumatic situation that leaves him to be sent off to live with Achilles. I’m not gonna lie and say I remember all of the names and settings this took place but it was super easy to follow along otherwise. I’ve always loved Greek mythology and I thought this idea was genius. We are given this love story between two boys who are living during the Trojan times. We watch them grow and try to understand each other. I really think this book is a great example of how to make a relationship readable and real and the writing is so beautiful. This is the first time that an author took a gay relationship and didn’t make the whole book about them coming to terms with what the reader already knows. This book displayed there forbidden relationship with amazing depth and character value. I loved this book and loved the way it developed!
