honestly very good, i can certainly see what the hype is about. to preface i also have a limited knowledge of greek mythology, but from what ive read this is pretty lore accurate. im glad the author stayed with the Homer era depiction of Achilles’ power/mortality too. i was hooked from the very first chapter, the pacing was good and the writing itself is just great. i think the time skips especially are executed well because it doesn’t feel as if anything had been missed, and it was so cool to watch the characters grow and change over the years. also very important of course to showcase a very obviously queer relationship in greek mythology that has been ignored/forgotten by many. this book really captures the subject of love in such a wholesome yet devastating way, i will be thinking about this for a bit.

LOVE Miller’s writing. I honestly want to reread this immediately. I enjoyed Circe a little bit more as there were just a few parts of this that dragged for me. This story is such a beautiful portrayal of love.
The ending when their souls rejoined made me so emotional. I think anyone that’s been in love could relate to that moment/feeling. I loved the growth we see from Thetus. It’s beautiful how Achilles was born from brutality (and resented because of it) but went on to save countless women from his mother’s fate. We don’t need to be half-gods to be more than our circumstances.
The phrase “chafed conscience” really struck a chord with me. I can’t wait to read more from Miller. Bring on Persephone!!!
