WOW. This book wrecked me. Incredibly well-written and researched with some of the most descriptive imagery I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I felt the breeze, smelled the sea, saw the glinting armor, heard the battle, tasted the figs. This book was full of longing, tortured anguish, unspoken love and promises, betrayal, death, legacy, and sacrifice. The love and tenderness between Achilles and Patroclus grows and blossoms so beautifully and you can't help but fall in love with Achilles. We are able to see his flaws, but Patroclus is too close and has Achilles on too high a pedestal. Despite knowing the fate of the lovers, you can't help but to root for them and hope Miller strays away from their destiny. Truly a remarkable read and is now in my top 5 books of all time.
I finally read The Song of Achilles — and wow, I have mixed but overall good feelings about it. The writing was really beautiful and poetic, and I did feel the emotions, especially in the second half. The love between Achilles and Patroclus was tender, heartbreaking, and tragic (even though we all know where it’s headed).
That said, the first half was a little slow for me. It took a while to fully get into the story, and at times I felt a bit disconnected from the characters. But once things picked up, especially toward the end, I was hooked.
I’m glad I listened to the audiobook — it helped bring the story to life. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy Greek mythology and slow-burn romance with a tragic twist.

Perhaps I'm just not a fan of Greek mythology, but I found myself very bored. I'm sure I would have DNF'ed it if I were reading and not listening to the audiobook. Great narration got me through it.
