This is a really lovely book-- the prose and story are beautiful. Makes classic stories MUCH more interesting-- and you don't need extensive knowledge of Homer (e.g.) to understand or appreciate the novel.

“Why would I kill Hector? What has Hector ever done to me?”

Just reading this line gives me all the feels again. What a breathtaking book!

Romance isn't really my thing, so I was a little bored until about 1/3 into the book

when the dancer is revealed to be Achilles

. I'm not sure why that specific scene was the turning point, but it was like a switch being flipped. After that, it was glorious. I rooted so much for Achilles and Patroclus! I completely broke down at the end. The thought they would be separated for eternity was heartbreaking.
