Bullet Review:

I won't say this is my favorite Brubaker/Phillips endeavor. Dylan is exactly the type of mopey male protagonist I hate - he's the quintessential "Nice Guy" with a rather good life, if he'd get out of himself.

What makes this more interesting is the vigilante angle - was it a demon, or is that just Dylan's justification for what he does?

As always, I'm still intrigued where this series is going, so even though Dylan makes me want to strangle someone, I'm in for the ride.

Not certain I'll continue the series but it's a good read. Not my favourite visual styling but still good.

Worthy of 4.5 stars if the system allowed it. Nice to read a Brubaker/Phillips joint that doesn't lean hard on multiple twists. Although that said, this is just volume one after all.

Bit more disturbing than what this team usually produces, but engaging nonetheless. The writing is well plotted and paced. Art is always dead on, in the overall story is interesting.

***3.5 stars***

I used to not read any graphic novels, but now I am unable to stop myself because every graphic novel or Manga I read has been nothing short of awesome(as of yet) including this one.

Kill or be Killed is written by Ed Brubaker who wrote several comics for Marvel and DC and this kind of shows why he was still going strong in the comic game. And The art is just as good by Sean Philips and Elizabeth Breitweiser, it had a noir like quality to it which is always welcome with me.

This story plays havoc with Vigilantism, may be not in a way never seen before, but definitely in a new-ish light. The story is simply put Dylan Cross, our protagonist in the process of killing himself ends up making a deal(not exactly) with a demon to Kill or be Killed.

This volume has everything that a first volume should have. An engaging storyline, nearly gorgeous(at times) art and many unlikable characters that are just the right amount of intriguing to bear with.

The characters are all almost straight up jerks except for Dylan who is a socially awkward and depressed loser jerk. He would never go out and kill someone not even the worst criminals, but now he had no choice because if he doesn't kill one criminal by the end of the month he will be killed.

Dylan is a whiny jerk and had far too many monologues often going on erratic tangents. This might be a put off for many people, but for me it's not. I cannot say I loved it, but I cannot say that I hated it either. These are tolerable enough for me to not lose the story completely. So that is the only problem, except that I loved everything about this and I will be waiting for the next volume.

A dark, violent look at vigilantism that could only be told in a graphic novel, Kill or Be Killed tells the story of Dylan, a 28 year-old failed graduate student, who survives his second suicide attempt. Upon stumbling back to his apartment, a demon appears and tells him that in exchange for his own life, he must kill someone deserving every 30 days, or he will die.

I found it compelling and interesting. It was focused on showing a believable take on the actual psychological tolls killing someone - even someone "deserving" - has on the killer, and portrayed Dylan as a believable, even relateable, young man caught up in something outside of his comprehension.

As distasteful as the subject matter was, I'd recommend it to anyone that likes crime comics, and doesn't mind "mature" content. I'll definitely be reading volume 2 shortly.
