If you have read Beautiful Boy, you absolutely should read this. Was so interesting to have the perspective of Nic and his mental health struggle through different events that also were explained in beautiful Boy. Knowing the deep well of mental anguish and depression Nic was experiencing and the shame is critical to understanding what an addict feels, accepting that they had traumatic experiences that lead them to medicate. I myself am not an addict but love someone who is a sober addict and much of Nic's experiences were similar, in the shame, the secret keeping, the self sabotage ect. Nic's writing was very raw and I could definitely see the influence from his Dad's writing style as well.

Gosh this was hard. Reading this right after his father’s book truly was heartbreaking. I liked Beautiful Boy more than I did this one, but these stories are so important. Everyone should be able to read and consume such stories and I’m so glad Nic decided to write it all down.
