I am a huge fan of Kristin Hannah. Her writing is always so immersive and detailed. I will read anything she writes!

What I enjoyed:
• emotional, heart tugging, funny
• a deeper look into relationships and self love
• the writing
• atmospheric details

What could have been better?
• i was so frustrated with the characters and their decisions. It was hard for me to understand their decisions (not a bad thing just a personal preference)
• felt unfinished in the end

There is a reason that Kristin Hannah made it big with The Nightingale and The Great Alone. I enjoyed this book, but I won't be making an effort to work through her extensive backlist. I would reach for them in an airport or grab one to take to the beach, though. In this book, Elizabeth has lost herself in 24 years of marriage, moving, and raising children. She's unhappy in her marriage, and knows her husband is, too. When he gets yet another new opportunity, she decides not to move cross country with him. I loved that this showed the mistakes both of them had made, and didn't put all the blame on Jack, though on the surface that's where it would fall. I wish Jack had made a bit more connection between the dreams of youth he felt he'd missed out on and the bad boy behavior he was campaigning to end in sports, but I appreciated that we heard his voice as well.

Messy and imperfect but comfortingly relatable. It’s so important to not lose yourself. As a chronic people pleaser, I needed this reminder of setting my own boundaries and putting my needs first no matter how that might make someone else feel.

Easy read but not much to it. I may be getting tired of KH’s writing style and themes. I enjoyed this and made me think about my passions and my relationships, but I enjoyed this less than her other novels.

There was nothing wrong with this book. Just picked it up at the wrong time. I may pick it up at a later time. I initially chose it because it was an available Kristin Hannah book and after The Women hangover I was having, I thought I’d try it. Like I said, okay book, but wrong time.

It took me a loooong time to get into this book. Like 150 pages. It was a slow build but there was a good payoff. The only thing that pissed me off was the husband cheating. Even if they were separated. Husband cheats, wife, when given the chance, does not. Sigh. Otherwise a solid story.
