This was actually so sweet 🥹 Found family is definitely one of my favorite tropes and this did not disappoint.
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. We meet famous violist Elizabeth who had been at the mercy of her manager for years but one evening before a concert she decided to run after he left a bruise. Not knowing where to go or what to do, she buys a cheap car and drives off. We meet former military and current bar owner Ewan on his way home in a storm to come across a woman in a car with a tree on top of it. Isobel gives Ewan her birth name as it isn't widely known. She tells him no hospitals and that she escaped an abusive work relationship. Scared as a mouse Ewan helps her and decided he'll keep her safe. Ewan gives her a job at the bar to keep an eye on her. Isobel hasn't had freedom before and is now treading unfamiliar territory. Ewan and his gang have been very supportive of her eventho they don't know her. So this is what it's like to have friends. A town event turns out to be not so good for Isobel and its time to hide until the storm has blown over....she basically blew her cover but with thr help of Ewan and his friends/family she has a fighting chance. Great read!!

I think this might be my favorite one yet. I loved Isobel and really felt like I understood her passion for her music and the heartbreak at leaving it.

All the cinnamon roll swoons
I loved, loved Ewan and Isobel’s damsel in distress, forced proximity, healing romance. It gave me all the swoony swoons while also pulling at my heartstrings with all the big feelings. Ewan is a former Royal Marine who moved back home after retiring. He owns a local bar and is content with his life even if it lacks color. Isobel is a world renowned violinist who’s afraid of the man controlling her life and feels like she’s living in a prison. The day she decides to disappear there is a horrible storm which results in a car accident. Ewan happens to be driving in the same storm, rescues Isobel and gives her a safe place to live and work. To get to their HEA, they need to deal with Isobel’s past and trust in their very real feelings in order to find a path forward together. I love alpha sexy guys who are kind, considerate and loving like Ewan. They make the best cinnamon roll heroes. The way Ewan gently, lovingly, and beautifully helped Isobel come out of her gilded cage, face her fears, find her inner strength, and begin to shine gave me all the big feels. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline with sweet moments, steam, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, and all the heart squeezing love. I am loving this series and the smexy kilted Scottish heroes. 4.5 stars
