Enjoyed how short and sweet it was, and the world building was interesting and vivid, but a lot was left unexplained that I didn’t love. Maybe I would enjoy it more after reading the rest, but I’m in no hurry to get to them.

Was thinking how to review this.

Didn't expect this book to be so good tbh; not sure why, but i had it in mind that it was going to be a low brow comfort story.
HOWEVER, it is an amazing short novel about violence, love, politics and (importantly) the girlies girlbossing ancient china. The writing is incredibly soft and evocative, it reads like tale. Very queer-oriented as well.
It's also very unpretentious which i feel like sometimes is hard to achieve with these things.

A story within a story, that is what this book is. It is artfully and slowly showing us details through the different objects that are in the house. For a short book it puts so much details and world builds so well, with out dragging on or making the flow of the story suffer. One of my favourite fantasy books I have read and I will definitely be reading more of the author Nghi Vo's works.
