I put off reading this book for so long because I wasn’t sure I would like it. Even at the beginning of reading it, I was unsure of it. The concept is so unique and it’s executed amazingly. Once the letters start, it gets so much better. I don’t usually enjoy complicated writing styles, but this was a work of art. Especially as the letters go on, they become genuine literary masterpieces (in my opinion.) The end had me wanting more, in a good way. The plot twist fell into place so well and it’s worth reading. I wasn’t expecting this book to have such a high rating, but it is one of the best I’ve ever written.

This book will reward re-reading, mulling over & reading outside reviews. It is complex, romantic, full of hope & despair all at the same time. Is the conclusion that
we must break away from more collective identities correct
?

Wow oh wow did I love this. I didn’t understand what I was reading all the time (hence the .5 taken off) but the romance, the intrigue, the writing, the detail was all so beautiful.

I would recommend this to most people, but would avoid suggesting it to anyone who isn’t a fan of abstract stories. There’s lots of time travel and while that’s not the plot of the book, as many time traveling books tend to be, I would describe it as the setting of the book.

I felt very moved by this book and tabbed many lines that made my heart twist or sing. It’s just beautiful.

I don't know how to feel. Some beautiful poetic moments but also nauseating gore. Some parts felt like 1984 with the new speak and uncanny turns of phrase.

The moments of war and gore, and being able to be surgeons to themselves really put me off. Hiding things behind the eyeball??? 🤮🤮🤮

This book wasn’t for me. The prose can be so purposefully opaque that it renders parts of the book barely understandable. And while I’m sure that some people enjoy that, personally I think that no matter how cerebral a book is, you should be able to imagine what the characters are doing when the author describes simple actions.

A challenging read told as a volley of, lets say unusual communcation methods, between two rival elite time traveling agents across time and space.  They each speak in their own voice, which most often takes the form of poetry and layered meanings.

A wild ride from start to finish.
