Just as funny, adventure filled and sweet as the first!

Read my full thoughts over at Read.Write.Repeat.

Though not as intrinsically magical as the first book, this sequel continues the fun, nontraditional fairy tale.

4.5 I loved this series as a kid and maybe I'm nostalgic but I'm loving reading it as an adult too. (This is my favorite of the four, so I always read books 2-4 first then go back to 1). Though its geared to young people, it doesn't talk down to them. And it resists the urge to take it's humor into pure silliness. The fairytale satire was actually still really fresh and fun for me. Things wrapped up more quickly than I remembered, but I think the problems build and escalate over the course of the series.

When I was young I never forgave this book for not being told from Cimorene’s POV. But now that I’m older and *ahem* wiser, I see this story is easily as much fun as the first. Such fun characters, tightly plotted, such a healthy relationship between Cimorene and Mendenbar! Imagine, they fall in love because they have things in common and respect each other!

Decided to do a fifth (or sixth, or seventh) reread of this today, and didn't regret it. Absolutely as charming as it's always been, and I love rereading books I had growing up, and remembering how they made me feel at the time of my first reading :)

Really enjoyed this sequel. It was funny, strong female characters, and a great story. What else do we want?
