Looking for a YA slasher with a bunch of horror movie references? Then this is the book for you!

This book started off strong we follow our main character Alice who is the sole witness to her sisters killing and the day of the trial she is knocked out and taken back to the day her sister died.

I was expecting to rate this book at least a 4 but the pacing was off in parts and also staged a bit. But over I would recommend if you want that classic 90s slasher vibes.

I AM FULLY SHOOK.

I am a actually at a loss for words. I can’t even give this a rating right now. I feel so many things. I’ll be back.

There was SO MUCH I disliked about this. I should have stopped reading after the “go back in time and try again” plot twist 40% in. The downright odd and cringy “Final Girl of Christmas Past” character ushered in a completely ridiculous plot that can only be pulled off if you completely suspend all level of disbelief until the very last page. I’m supposed to believe Alice doesn’t have cell service in the affluent suburban neighborhood? Or that Sierra doesn’t have her phone on silent while camped out hiding from a murder in a closet? Or that she hadn’t tried calling 911? Save yourself the time- this conflict was riddled with plot holes and presents one frustrating character decision after another. Struggling to find any literary merit in this one…

If you are into slasher troupes, you may like this book; however, the unexplained and seemingly random addition of a “Click” or “Family Man” troupe of reenvisioning a situation felt rushed and strange to me.

I have read a lot of books within the past 2 years, but none of them have made me as speechless as How To Survive Your Murder. This book has everything you would want in a horror book: exciting characters, the epitome of right and wrong (more wrong than right in this case), an enticing plot, most definitely multiple plot twists, and maybe even a Sydney Prescott look-alike. I became hooked on this book within the first 4 pages and I don't think I ever put it down from there.

How To Survive Your Murder is built on the ground that is mid to late 90's horror movies. Most references throughout the book play a significant part in moving the story along.........like being a Final Girl.

Overall this book left me speechless and I absolutely loved every moment of it. I really recommend this for anyone who loves 90's horror movies, some very crazy plot twists, and if you just want a read that will make you go "I really think this person is the killer" or "NO WHY DID YOU GO IN THERE!" Then this book is for you. You'll be dying to read it.

Common sense: it's like the main rule of being a Final Girl........
P.S. being a Final Girl isn't easy

I. Hate. This. Book.
Srsly. Can I give it zero stars?

Probably a 2.75 stars ⭐️
This book could’ve been great but it wasn’t. There were way too many pop culture references and the main character was such a pick me girl it was gross. The pacing of the plot was okay, and then the ending was so rushed. I didn’t really understand why that person was the killer- like I felt like there wasn’t much explanation or reasoning (I didn’t even pick it).

What. The fuck.
