3.6 AVERAGE

In keinem Aspekt hätte ich auch nur n Viertelpunkt verteilen können.

i think i need to sit with this one a little longer. it was entertaining and fast and fun, but the pay off wasn't what i expected and i don't really care for the ending. it kind of just made me feel a little empty.

if that's what the author was going for, then a success! my official rating is a 3.5/5 as of now.

i'd recommend if you're just looking for a quick little murder mystery y/a. perfect if you loved happy death day!

Alice is an extremely relatable character. She's the "normal" high school girl who doesn't really fit in with any major clique. She isn't a nerd, or a popular girl, or in with what would be considered the cliche weird group. Alice is just herself and she does her own thing. She does have a sister who is in the popular crowd. Well, she did. Until her sister was murdered. On Halloween night, no less. If that isn't the start of a great slasher movie, I don't know what is. But don't worry, because Alice gets the opportunity to go back in time and wake up on the day her sister was murdered for a chance to save her and stop the killer. Did someone order "Happy Death Day" vibes? It was probably me.

This is an incredible story! It reads like an homage to every great slasher flick out there. If you are a horror movie buff, then this is most certainly a book for you. It has every essence of a great slasher but on a page instead of a screen. Though it's written in such a way that you feel like you're right there in a horror movie. It was like all of your favorite little pieces of every one of your favorite slashers rolled into one book. And it was INCREDIBLE! I want more of them. This is definitely one I'm going to be reading again. The writing style was A++ and the characters were kickass!

That was just… not good
The vision was there just not executed properly

scrumpdilly yum yummmmmm I devoured this book. Really enjoyed it, and liked that it was following the horror stereotype, but the main character was aware of that and used it to her advantage. Really enjoyed the story, and I like how much detail and thought was put into each detail unlocking who the killer was.

ExCUSE ME!!!!!!! I am SHOOK by that ending. What a whirlwind second half!!!

I devoured this book. Took a moment to get into, but worth the setup. I love how this begins as a referential-cheeky-slasher and morphs into something deeper, and sadder, as Alice’s love for the horror genre meets reality.

I really, really liked our protagonist Alice. She was a perfect teen narrator, a little self-involved, but tries to be a good person and a good sister. And brave despite everything. Oh my god. That ending. What the HECK!!!!

I want this to have a sequel. But the fact that it doesn’t is kind of its charm. I’ve never read a book quite like this one.

An excellent Halloween slasher thriller, even in January lol

Brain dump of motifs, since I can’t formulate sentences right now:

Society’s morbid fascination with true crime. Time travel, kinda. Grief and familial bonds. And, finally… greater moral responsibility…? “What do we owe each other?”

This was freaking.. EPIC. Alice being the only witness to the murder of her sister in a ~spooky~ cornfield on Halloween night, must now relive the worst night of her life in order to save her sister’s life. THAT is all you need to know to dive into this AMAZINGLY PERFECT spooky season (or all season) book.

I was literally obsessed from chapter one. Being a HUGE fan of Scream, scary movies, the “final girl” trope and spooky season in general, this book knew how to suck me right in. The twists just kept on coming, this was LITERALLY a page turner for me and I can 100% see myself recommending this a ton during this upcoming fall season and in general!

I will say, I did guess who did what but I couldn’t figure out why literally until near the very end. But even still, I genuinely enjoyed it. Which is saying a lot since I knew who done it haha.

I’ve seen some chatter about a sequel. Is that true? I don’t know. Do I hope it’s true? YES.

FOR FANS OF:
- 90s slasher flicks
- Final girl references, Scream style
- All of the spooky season vibes

The pacing on this one wasn't my jam. It's pitched as a girl gets time looped to solve/save her her sister from her slasher-movie-esque murder, but that doesn't happen for like 80 whole pages. And most of those 80 pages is Big Teenage Emotions about friends and crushes and parents, which is never going to land for me.

The parts that are trying to find/running away from the slasher killer were very tense and atmospheric, so most of the points go to that. Absolutely hated the ending though.
