When your life turns into a horror movie, you have to follow the rules...
Alice is a horror-loving nerd, and her big sis, Claire, is effortlessly perfect and popular. Despite their differences, the sisters are two peas in a pod. When Alice witnesses Claire's murder in a corn maze on Halloween night, she is left empty and traumatized. She no longer gets enjoyment from discussing horror movies or spending time with her friends. For everyone else life goes on, while Alice's life has been turned upside down. As the sole witness to the murder, people in town are unsure whether to believe her account from that night, especially since she didn't witness the moments leading up to Claire's death. When the murder trial begins, Alice is knocked unconcious by a girl who looks exactly like Sidney Prescott, and comes to on Halloween night- the year before. Can Alice save her sister and catch a killer before midnight? Or will she watch Claire die all over again?
I enjoyed this audiobook in one day, as I was absolutely unable to stop reading! Between the constant movie references and murderer at large, this novel was jam-packed with bloody, horror-y goodness. I identified with Alice on so many levels, and I was rooting for her throughout the entire story. I was on the fence about who the killer could be for most of the book. The twists that were hurled at me left me reeling in some moments, and I couldn't wait for everything to come together. The narrator did a fantastic job of emulating the sheer terror and desperation that Alice was feeling as she tried to fix everything and save her sister. If you're looking for a YA horror novel that will leave your jaw on the floor, add this to your TBR!

I went in blind & im so glad i did. Such a fun read.
I predicted a few of the twists, but was overall surprised at the ending.
I did catch at the ending when stating the murder charges, Wes’s name was NOT listed. I’m thinking her survived & a sequel is coming.

It’s A Wonderful Life but make it Halloween👻
This was a fun YA horror book that played off a lot of the classic slasher movies. It keeps you guessing and has a few big twists to throw you off even more.
“Maybe the lesson here is that it doesn’t matter how many times you rewind, there’s always something you’re going to regret.”

i read the first two chapters and i could not see myself finishing this book. the mc was unlikeable since the first few pages, and the constant references (which i could not understand) felt overwhelming. such a pity, since the premise looks interesting.

Tons of horror movie references, but at what cost? I felt like there were so many references that the story was just a mashup of things I’ve already seen. The premise is interesting for sure, but this was definitely written for a YA audience.
No context spoiler: Emma Roberts
