This time traveling "It's a Wonderful Life" slasher tale was a perfect listen for the spooky season. I enjoyed this book a lot, though the twist is guessable less than half way in and towards the end the charm got lost a little because a character so well versed in "final girl" lessons was making choices that would go against that. Maybe that was the point? Regardless, it was fun and fast paced and a love letter to slasher films.

4 for the twist

This was such a good book

I absolutely loved every twist and turn it had in it I mean after I realized that the dad was cheating I kinda connected the dots on who the murder was but wasn’t really sure. I also loved the references to other horror films. I really like the whole click movie reference too that was a nice play as well as the very messed up but equally interesting ending.

A book written by a millennial about GenZs for GenZs who want that millennial throwback. Also WHAT HAPPENED TO WES??? You just completely forgot him at the end??!! How!?? Poor writing and editing is how.

My heart was thumping through so many parts of this thriller. At times it was so tense that my eyes would inadvertently skip ahead a few sentences to see the end result as I couldn’t handle the suspense. The premise was exceptional and kept me hooked. A teenage girl witnesses her sister’s murder and on the day she is about to testify against the “killer” she gets the opportunity to go back in time and find out what really happened. Absolutely loved the numerous references to the movie “Scream” and even a Neve Campbell look alike. Fun to the max and the twist at the end I did not foresee. Another book with a shocking ending that you don’t fully know the end, but somehow it makes it better that way. First 5 star book of the year.

Coming at you this Halloween with a fun YA mystery/ horror that has some A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder-esque vibes and was a creepy delight and perfectly encapsulate Halloween!

Alice’s sister, Claire, was killed one year ago at a Halloween party after Alice left her to go through the corn maze on her own. Alice was the sole witness to the murder and is set to testify against the perpetrator when something odd happens and she’s thrust back into the past to that horrific night. But this time, Claire lives.

This book was a great mixture of fun and thrilling. There are lots of homages to classic thrasher/ horror movies and references to the final girl trope. There were even moments where everything ironic because Alice would find herself in a situation and be all “this is the part of the movie where X would happen”, but yet she was living it out herself.

The plot was easy to follow along. Essentially, Alice was so sure and determined of who killed her sister. Except, once she’s back in time reliving that night, she begins to realize that maybe everything wasn’t so obvious as she once thought. As the events of the night unfold, Alice follows the clues and uses her future knowledge to trace the killer’s steps so she can get her confirmation that she was right.

Of course things don’t go as planned, more people end up dead in this timeline, and she begins to second guess everything she thought she knew. So many people became suspects and their actions questionable. Plus there seemed to be a bunch of red herrings to throw you off track and once you think you have it all, you realize you don’t.

The finale was action packed and it isn’t until the very end where the killer is revealed and though it was a bit shocking, it totally made sense. And then once Alice is back in present time to the trial, the last few sentences were almost jaw dropping! It was both satisfying but had me craving for more!

Overall, this was a super fast read that got me in the mood for fall and all thinks spooky! There were even themes of sisterhood which added another element to the mix.

This book is Scream reimagined. I enjoyed the book and kind of hope there is a sequel. I had figured out the killer early but loved the way it was revealed and played out Author definitely set it up for sequel.

DNF, two stars just because the story had potential, but from 30% the same thing kept happening with nothing new to keep me reading

i’m a sucker for a ya thriller, and i loved the 90s horror slasher references.
