4.5 stars. What a crazy twist. I thought I knew what was coming but nope! Very good. Going to watch the show now.

The tension throughout the story is  good and the narration in the audiobook is fantastic. It’s difficult to see where it’s going to end mainly because you have to suspend so much belief to buy into the ending, which is my biggest complaint of this novel. I would’ve liked a more realistic ending. As the book goes on, you have to suspend more and more Belief in things and it just makes it tough to enjoy.

The special twist almost earned it a second star. But my god, do I loathe this style of thriller. Bland, incomplete characters, ridiculous lack of sense being necessary to propel the tissue-thin plot, endless pointless internal monologues.

I admit I wanted to reach the end. The narrators did an excellent job, so it was worth my while to listen rather than simply look up spoilers.

Look, even though they're different, they're marketed similarly and both have a fun twist at the end - compare this to my other recent read, The Push. Everything in The Push is shown. Everything in Behind Her Eyes is told. The characters are believable and relatable in The Push. I mentioned how very weak the characters are in BHE. In The Push, my mind was engaged in the mystery and I enjoyed turning over possibilities and mulling them over as I read. In BHE, I deduced the primary twist the first time Adele talks about getting Louise in shape, and while I mulled over the possibility of demonic possession from time to time, there wasn't fun in it - BHE doesn't make its secrets interesting. It just lets you know they exist and then you know you'll have to wait to the end to find them out. Yawn.

NOTE TO SELF - DO NOT READ BOOKS SAID TO BE LIKE THIS ONE! NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY SOUND. YOU WILL BE SAD.

3/5 stars

This is one of those books where you're not gonna be able to predict what the last chapter has in store for you until it slaps you in the face.

"If you love someone, set them free. What a load of bollocks."

I literally don't even know how to rate this. I've been sitting on it awhile. At first my feelings were so strong I wasn't sure if this book deserved a 5 star rating or a 1 star rating. I was gripped, the plot twists were fantastic, and then the final plot twist completely threw me off. After mulling it over and telling myself that just because the twist is unpredictable that doesn't make it good or logical, I've decided that although I have strong feelings still, both ratings are extreme and this book doesn't deserve either one. So I'm settling on a neutral 3 stars.

SPOILERS beyond this point: you have been warned

This book gets 5 stars for having the most unpredictable twist I think I've ever read. However...

I can suspend my disbelief enough to believe the whole lucid-dreaming, body swapping stuff, but NOT enough to believe the absolute lengths that Rob has gone through to be with David when this entire book the two relevant things we've known about his character are:

1. Adele is his best friend, the only person to ever truly understand him, and he loves her like FAMILY.
2. He has no respect for David for taking control of Adele's money.

And we're supposed to supposed to buy that he fell so intensely in love with David at first sight that he killed his best friend to take over her life and be with David. The author gave us the bare minimum information about Rob, we know virtually NOTHING about him. I feel like there was no information given to make me, the reader, understand what his driving motivations were to be with David. It wasn't even hinted at that he liked men!!

I think I would have liked the final twist a little more if the author had taken more time to explore Rob's character and who he is. I think it should have just been left at Adele being the masterminded woman who would go to the extreme to keep her husband. That was well enough on it's own. Rob being Adele the entire time felt contrived and over doing it.

I found it extremely predictable which was disappointing for something expected to be a physiological thriller. Despite this I did decide to read it through to the end, which should count for something.
