swoon!! this book gave me butterflies and had me giggling left and right. so many loveable characters, and great 2019 dialogue. the modern dialogue didn’t feel forced, it was exactly how my friends and i talk making it easy to read. a world i wish we lived in (no pandemic, female president, prominent political gays in us and uk). i think this is my cap for romance novels, the plot was interesting enough to hook me, if it’s any more sappy and less plot driven than this i don’t think I’d enjoy it. I did find myself struggling to finish the last 100 or so pages because it was so predictable, but when i sat down to finish it, it was easy and still fun to read.

I think this book is a really good story and concept and I liked it a lot but it was so so long! At least for me. There was a bunch that I thought was unnecessarily long and that could have been shortened. But that’s my only gripe with this book!

I loved this book. I love to see queer people in situations usually predestined for heterosexuals. I like to see there struggles and the way there gender identity plays a role that. Its refreshing as a queer person myself to finally see my own inner turmoil reflected in the characters I can relate to. Really good first quuer book and I can not wait to delve into this genre💖

it took me a while to get into this book (6 months exactly...). BUT hear me out, i only read about 100 pages then i left it for 6 months, revisited it, and finished the rest in 3 days. i just love alex and henry so much. the only thing i don't like about this book is when it talks too much abt the politics lmao. like idrc that much... sorry. it's not even that much politics but like a good enough amount to be like aight when is henry coming back in the picture, let's get some dialogue going, yk? overall super fun and unique book. brb gonna go watch the movie (CAN WE TALK ABT THE FACT THAT JUNE ISNT IN THE MOVIE LIKE AS AN OLDER SISTER, I AM PERSONALLY OFFENDED BY THIS. june is my queen☹️). also CASEY, those were some fabulously written s*x scenes like i got butterflies. it was passionate and sweet, perfect.

this book is really and truly not at ALL worth the hype & reputation it has. the characters are bland, the plot has almost no meaning by the end as all the stakes just end up...not really mattering, and the writing is far too in the realm of fanfiction for me, which makes complete sense. this could have been a good book with an interesting story, but nothing was executed well. the characters didnt dislike each other enough to be enemies, they didnt show me enough of their past for me to get invested, and we werent really shown WHY they supposedly disliked each other except because theyre both young men from famous families...? like im sorry but thats not enough for me. it really isnt. the plot for them to get together was completely rushed, and then when they got together it just. stopped. and never really picked up again. i thought the politics of this book would be a very tense, interesting point of the story almost had next to no meaning in the book. like, i really thought the whole issue with the other presidential candidate would lead to SOME ramifications in the book, but it just didnt. also the fact that alex doesnt even WANT to go into politics by the end of it, which was part of the reason why their relationship had some reason to be kept secret...thats just bad writing. oh, and all the 'jabs' at the royal family were far too on the nose to me; it really feels like they were just there for the author to point to say 'look! look i pointed out that the monarchy is bad!!!' like spell it out for us a LITTLE less. have some nuance.
