This book was a great insight into what Ikigai is and providing some basic steps to begin understanding what it means to have Ikigai. The book also provided some interesting stories and histories, as well as cultural insights into Japanese life. I would definitely recommend this book.

Hm … for me this book was definitely an interesting glimpse into the Japanese culture. Not less, but also not more. I whole heartedly agree to the five pillars of Ikigai (start small, learn to let go, harmony and sustainability, joy of small things, and the here & now), but the stories in the book didn‘t really ignite a spark for me.

Ikigai is a mindset that has the potential to change your life. Ikigai is a Japanese word to describe the pleasure and meaning of life. The word literally consists of "iki' means 'to live' and 'gai' means 'reason', Ikigai is possible without your necessarily being successful in your professional life. It is true that having ikigai can affect on your carrier, but success is not a requisite condition for having ikigai.
This book is written by a Japanese bestselling neuroscientist, writer, and broadcaster living in Tokyo. And it packed fill of advice, wisdom, and insight, takes you down the path to a fulfilling and healthy existence. And i think, this book gives me the tools to make the most of every day. To being in here and now, to start with a small thing, to release myself, to understand the harmony and sustainability, and to enjoy the little things. It will be the reason to get up in the morning.

Great book! It put a lot of Japanese "cultural traits" into historical context and was overall a really inspiring and fun read.
