I can see why people would enjoy this book. It had a really interesting premise and the author did a good job at invoking the feelings of being a teenage girl.

I found the writing style to be tedious, though. So all in all, this book wasn't my cup of tea.

more sad than shocking by the end, I was a bit disappointed by that but I loved cline’s descriptive writing style

Started off so interesting and then it just fizzled out. Disappointing ending!

I have to admit that I nearly DNF'd this book because I just did not connect with it despite my excitement while reading it. I felt pretty burned by the hype surrounding this book! If you enjoyed My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh then you might like this one. It just wasn't for me and I love reading about cults!

Frankly, it's very disappointing. I have another book by Emma Cline that I want to read, and I really hope it won't be a snooze like this one. Spare moments of intrigue aside, this book has done nothing for me. I never felt scared, tense nor excited, and that's a big no when you're reading a supposedly thriller.

I do see the efforts in crafting this to be a version of Charles Manson and his cult, and I can kinda see that it succeeded. Maybe cult, in general as a theme or a genre, just isn't for me.

liked the passages that took place in the ranch, how atmospheric and vivid the descriptions were. liked the dynamic between evie and suzanne (which reminded me of the one between tracy and evie from the movie "thirteen") and liked some of the talk about girlhood. decent summer read but kind of underwhelming in its flatness.
