I liked this book so much more than I ever thought I would, and I feel kind of silly for having avoided it for so long. While there were a few things about the characters that were hard (Grace constantly saying AF and literally throwing herself into danger) I found I liked all of the characters involved. Graces ability to read people and their facial expressions is so interesting, given this is not something I’ve ever had a strong ability to do. Her ability to read people was so clever. I also found that I liked how in tune with her own emotions she was.
All of the lead up to her being something, that wasn’t human, was really interesting, especially with the reveal at the end of what she was and how she unknowingly seemed to use that to protect Jaxon. I did like the preview chapter from Jaxon’s perspective where we finally got to see in his own mind what he thought of Grace. I also liked that his feelings for her were just as strong as hers were for him.
I do wish grace had like 5 minutes to just experience school in a normal and happy way, instead of constantly facing danger (I did find myself going “again” several times) but I understand the point of the book is to give us conflict. I’m excited to learn more about Graces powers, her coming back, her relationship with Macy and Uncle Finn and obviously see how her and Jaxon’s mating goes.

I really enjoyed this book, and the main character is a Harry Styles fan which made me love the story so much more, it kind of reminds me of twilight but in more of a fantasy setting if that makes any sense. I think the school seems really interesting.

I wasn’t sure about reading this because I’ve drifted away from YA and there was a lot of hype surrounding these books. That being said, I did have fun reading this and I definitely laughed at moments, especially at the twilight book scene. The plot of this was solid but it also felt rather obvious at times. Additionally, I know they’re teenagers but I was tired of the Harry styles references and the “sexy af” and just use of “af” after the first few chapters. I enjoyed the conversations around loss and seeing how different people handle their grief and the ending was definitely a surprise. I wish though that there were more bits of foreshadowing throughout the book to give a better indication of where we were going with the plot. Definitely a fun read but not something that I’d call a great book. I will continue on since this seems to be helping with my reading slump but I can’t say I’m dying to find out what happens next.
