DNF’d at 25%. I wanted to love this based on the premise, but I just couldn’t get into it. The different character POV chapters (that weren’t even really chapters) would just start out of nowhere with no explanation for who they were half the time and they kept switching tenses and it was driving me up a wall. I can understand the point the book was trying to make and why some of the thematic choices were made, but I don’t agree with them. On top of that, the characters felt so flat and the plot was just a lot of telling. I wasn’t having a good time and I don’t care to find out what happens next

I won't lie, I don't know how to feel about this book... I may re-read it in the future to grasp it a little better. I didn't really care to read the very detailed movie scenes. I think Silvia could've opted for a screen written format for that, and it not only would’ve gotten the same point across but also been a slightly shorter book.
Her writing style and prose is still one of my favorites to read, and I felt extremely bad for Vera throughout the entire book. The assimilation to American culture, the culture shocks, and blatant racism she faced in the entertainment industry was so heartbreaking.
Nancy has got to be one of the most unhinged characters I’ve read in a while. I went from feeling bad for her to being disgusted by her and it never left from there.
