This one missed the mark for me. Historical fiction set in 1950's Hollywood is usually always a win for me but I just had too many qualms with it.
We're following three women throughout the story and it felt really disjointed to me. The only common thread was all three women were controlled by men. But even that is pushing it. Additionally, two of the women are in the same era and location (50's Hollywood) and the third is Salome in Biblical times. It just didn't work for me. Had the Salome story been removed it might have felt more connected but I'm honestly not sure.
This book felt a little like [b:The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo|32620332|The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo|Taylor Jenkins Reid|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1664458703l/32620332._SY75_.jpg|46885151] meets [b:Daisy Jones & The Six|40597810|Daisy Jones & The Six|Taylor Jenkins Reid|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1580255154l/40597810._SY75_.jpg|61127102] in the fact the story is behind the scenes of 50's Hollywood but randomly an interview is through in telling the story past tense. The format was jarring for me. The stories of the three women are present tense but, again, randomly an interview from the director or screenwriter or a friend of the main character would pop up and it would be in past tense. It didn't work for me.
Also some of the characters talked in a very stereotypical way; I could almost hear the Trans-Atlantic accent jumping off the page. Dialogue you would hear in movies at the time and but it wasn't the way people would speak in their every day lives.

The writing is beautiful on the characters are interesting but the end is a bit predictable and it’s just sort of… stops. Not a bad read, but nothing that really set it apart.

Ending was rather abrupt, with a curious choice not to have any reflections from the main characters’ POVs..
