Incredible. Heartbreaking. This is the best work of literature I've read since I picked up Mexican Gothic by the same author. I am left speechless and desperately sad.

The Good:
I really liked the concept of this book, as I love any Silvia Moreno-Garcia books. I thought the writing style was really good, and the characters were so beautifully written. I loved the one POV from the actual script being apart of the book of the character Salome.
The Bad:
It was confusing to follow with the constant switching of POVs throughout a chapter. The plot was slow moving and sometimes stilling where I had to start skimming over certain parts. I thought some of the POVs were sort of pointless but it’s kind of part of Silvia’s storytelling.
The Ugly:
There was nothing outrightly ugly about this book other than the fact it was boring in some spots and in some POVs. However it was great in most of the others but this was just a very slow book for me.

I really enjoyed this one - it might be my new second favorite of Moreno-Garcia’s (next to Silver Nitrate). This really immerses us in the Hollywood studio system and slowly reveals the mystery of what happened to Vera and Nancy. I do wish the characters had a bit more subtlety - that Vera was slightly less perfect, that Nancy was slightly less cartoonishly evil, and that we learned more about Joe. But the writing keeps us moving quickly and I had a fun time!

Gut-wrenchingly good. Fabulous
Anyways, good.

The Seventh Veil of Salome is my second Silvia Moreno-Garcia book, and much like Mexican Gothic, it was a 5-star read for me. It tells the story of three women in two different timelines. The biblical Salome, Nancy, a former child actress still trying to make it in 1950s Hollywood, and a young Mexican woman, Vera, who is just starting her acting career after being “discovered” working at her father's dental office in Mexico City.
I read this book in 2 days because I was so invested in the story and characters. Moreno-Garcia does a skillful job of weaving together the two timelines and each woman’s story, which kept me turning the pages eager to find out what happens to each of them. I loved how Moreno-Garcia shows us the parallels between Salome, Nancy and Vera and how even though the two time periods couldn’t be more different, the way women are used, abused and discarded hasn’t changed much at all.
I found The Seventh Veil of Salome an entertaining, poignant, and bittersweet book that kept me turning pages into the night, intrigued all the way until the beautifully crafted ending.
