4.5 stars… I really liked this book. It did so many things, and it did most of them so very well! The author’s voice is strong, poetic, and challenging. As a reader, I was compelled to examine my own biases, the way I perpetuate (unintentionally and intentionally) inaccessibility, and how to become more deliberate about being an ally. Great great GREAT read!

(feel bad for breaking the streak there lol)

it's been a while since I haven't had to force myself to sit down and read. most of the time spent reading this book was long, comfortable stretches where I wasn't just reading to get through it.
this felt like a gateway into Deaf culture and struggle for hearing people, and I appreciate it for that. I now have even more to be angry at lol. there's so much hurt for every group and culture, but I still appreciate the joy some of the characters got to have, even if it didn't always last or seemed so small in the face of such towering problems. reading something like this makes me wish I could take everyone's hurt away, and it always frustrates me to know I can't. but me and my family are learning ASL, so there's at least a few more people around to care I guess lol
