A really interesting case study of the evolution of Tolkien's tale, particularly if you love the creative process of storytelling, poetry and the world of Lord of the Rings. This book includes the first version of the story and subsequent iterations, complete with commentary from Christopher Tolkien about the history. It won't be for everyone (especially the parts written in rhyme scheme), but boy, did I enjoy picking apart and comparing the differences.

Writing about Tolkien's work... it's a lot to live up to,
Since I spent way too long thinking of rhymes for this "review."

The book is incredibly interesting. The whole evolution of the Lai of Tinuviel to the version of The Silmarillion is amazing.

The story itself is truly beautiful and beautifully told. I loved the prose that made it sound like an ancient tale, and all the imagery. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the intrusive commentary about the history and development of the story. I just wanted to read the story. And I would love to see this as a full- color illustrated book, and a ballet. This story is particularly well suited to a ballet adaptation and i, for one, would like to see that.
