Writing about Tolkien's work... it's a lot to live up to,
Since I spent way too long thinking of rhymes for this "review."

The book is incredibly interesting. The whole evolution of the Lai of Tinuviel to the version of The Silmarillion is amazing.

The story itself is truly beautiful and beautifully told. I loved the prose that made it sound like an ancient tale, and all the imagery. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the intrusive commentary about the history and development of the story. I just wanted to read the story. And I would love to see this as a full- color illustrated book, and a ballet. This story is particularly well suited to a ballet adaptation and i, for one, would like to see that.

All versions of the tale of Luthien and Beren gathered in one book, making it easy to compare them and to see the way Tolkien envisioned them. The story in itself is not long, but I found it fascinating to see the way it's been written and rewritten time and again.
