3.5/5🌶️, MF, SciFi, alien, continuation from the first book, part of a series, duet narration, audible (credit, boxset)

Another standard alien story (with a minor twist). This is a continuation from book one with the same MCs. The FMC is now pregnant and the MMC is dealing with the fallout of having a human wife. Again, this is a good “listen to while doing chores” book. It wasn’t overly engaging but it was entertaining enough. A big (happy) surprise with this audiobook was this one was duet narration (the first book is dual narration). My biggest negative with these books is the MCs are constantly withholding vital information from each other then getting mad when they find out, promising to tell each other everything, then rinse and repeat. Plus, how much do you enjoy the MMC’s calling his mate “female”? A lot? Then you’ll enjoy this book. At least throw in a “mate”. Anyway, I have two more books in the boxset and I think it will be good to have a new set of MCs because I was getting a little bored of these two. But I may take a break before tackling the last two books in this boxset.

Gives a clear beginning for the rest of the series.

Kate and Vaxa have been married and are expecting their first child. They are also keeping secrets from one another which strains their marriage. There were some political drama moments and some violence, but most of the book seemed to be about them being terrible at communicating.
Kate improved more than Vaxa in that department IMO, though she still doesn’t share other issues with him. Vaxa is too rash for a supposedly level headed leader.
I like the setting and the culture in this book, but I wanted more closure on the communication stuff.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: violence, references to SA

YES! I was so pleased to receive Book Two in the Warriors of Luxiria series! This is a great sequel to The Alien's Prize!

The Alien's Mate picks up about a month after the conclusion of Prize. Kate has settled in to working at the archives and is pregnant. Prior to Kate arriving on the alien planet, an airborne virus released by their enemies had killed most of the women of Luxiria and the ones who survived were infertile. Vaxa, her Mate and Prime Leader of Luxiria, is very protective of Kate, would rather she stay at home as the gestation time is two-thirds shorter than a human baby, and grows rapidly which puts an additional strain on Kate. But she's determined to keep busy and to learn more about the new alien world she lives in.

Meanwhile, there is dissension amongst some of his people due to the fact that Vaxa chose a human to be his mate. He has tried to instill the truth to his council that the old Luxirian way is gone - that they must mate with other species to adapt and evolve or they will die off. Many are reluctant to accept this. Some now want to openly challenge him.

Vaxa must face those who challenge him in a fight to the death called the Trials. He keeps this from Kate as long as he can, knowing how much it will upset her. Plus, there are other issues going on that he hasn't shared adding suspense to the story (I want to keep this spoiler-free!) and the reader is given just enough information to be curious about the next story in the series, but not a cliffhanger!

Vaxa is at times a warrior and a leader, but he also has a romantic side (in his own way!) and his devotion to Kate is as hot as the sexy times, which are HOT!

What is the outcome of the Trials? How does Kate's pregnancy progress? Will she safely deliver the Prime Leader's child? Will she be more fully accepted into their society? What other issues are brewing in the galaxy?

This is a series you WILL NOT want to miss!

I was provided an ARC however, this is my own honest voluntary review, always.
