The second volume of the last man begins with the possibility of having more survivors and how they can survive the plague. It then picks up with drama and humor to improve on the first part. It is setting up the story for the next few volumes.

A whole lot of crazy stuff happening. At this rate, they'll never get where they need to go haha loved the Shakespearean monkey art.

The theater group arc and the safeword arc are a little muddy, but the set really ends on a strong note and left me wanting to keep reading.

(3.5 stars) The writing and art are both as good as the first book but the story is a little less cohesive. It felt more meandering at times.

This book keeps the main plot moving along at a nice clip, delves into flashbacks that help flesh out Yorick's character and motivations more, and pushes the envelope with an unorthodox and risky intervention. The Comedy & Tragedy interlude is a nice break in the action and change of pace, but I found some of its meta humor to be a little too pointed. I don't see the purpose of Ampersand so far since he currently only serves as a personality quirk for Yorick and causes problems. Hopefully his presence will pay off further down the road. I really enjoy the many unexpected twists and turns that keep coming, and Vaughan and company sure know how to craft an effective cliffhanger.

I am getting more invested in this story! I’m excited to see where it goes, but also enjoying the conversations this is having on gender and societal breakdowns. Another “cliffhanger” of an ending and I’m starting to think it’s Vaughan‘s thing because he does this do us in Saga as well.

Having gotten a lot of the expository stuff out of the way in book one, book two feels more engaging and thoughtful and original. It's just a fun adventure story that feels sort of loosely plotted at times, but it's also imaginative and engrossing.

Dam this series is just friggin epic!
The part I struggled with this book, was the theatre part - it felt totally disconnected and for me it just didn't work and wasn't needed.
Book three I'm coming for you!
