Another great Sherlock Holmes book. I thought the last story was a bit dull for the end of a book but I liked that a few of the stories in this collection were narrated by Holmes himself - an interesting change in perspective. Although I enjoyed this collection, it’s probably my least favourite in the Sherlock Holmes collection. Still worth a read though!

An anthology of short stories, one of the final Sherlock Holmes books published in the late 1920s (individual stories were first published separately in magazines throughout the 20s). I have been a lifelong lover of Sherlock Holmes from the early 1980s when I watched Jeremy Brett on Friday nights on PBS, then became old enough to read the books, and eventually loved the BBC series Sherlock. This was an engrossing series, classic Holmes.

A great set of short stories! Honestly, one of my favorite sets from ACD’s canon. Holmes’s characterization in these stories is unmatched, caring and intelligent in ways that most retellings don’t capture.

I've spent 2023 (re)reading all the Sherlock Holmes shorts stories (in audio form) and I'm glad to have finally read this final book. It has some really good and memorable stories - "The Illustrious Client" and "The Three Garridebs" are two great/important ones.

I was surprised at how many classic characters, concepts and quotes from the Sherlock Holmes world only appear in this one, this late in the canon. To give just one example, this wonderful telegram from Holmes to his Watson:
"Come at once if convenient—if inconvenient come all the same."
