I had high hopes for this one after loving the first novel. However for me it took far too long to get to the action and most of the good stuff happened 2/3's into the book. It was a real struggle to read at times, but I did enjoy the ending.

I really have no idea how I feel about this book. When I think of an aspect I like, I also think of a reason it wasn't great. I did enjoy it, but I did put the book down and complain multiple times (sorry Zoe)
Usually, e lockhart manages to make a very cringey concept into a unique and entertaining read. This wasn't bad, but definitely my least favourite.
The story was not relatable, considering it was about suuuuper old money rich people, but that doesn't bother me too much. It also didn't speak to me because the main character was willing so socialise a hell of a lot more than I've ever been and I could barely tell how well it was done because I can't imagine living like that. I do understand that's my fault, but I'm just giving reasons as to why I personally didn't enjoy it.
It did capture a teenage mind quite well, but I think e lockhart needs to stop writing so many teenagers. She did that in 'Genuine Fraud' and it was quite good, so I hoped she'd keep doing that. It's losing its quality and is just a little bit weird.
The plot was nothing special but I did like reading it just because it was someone's life. Oddly enough I enjoyed the quieter parts of the story more than the drama because I liked the little world she created with this family even if it is a bit cringey. Unfortunately, the plot twist was really similar to its predecessor (this book is a prequel) which I did kind of roll my eyes at, but I sort of saw that coming.
Overall, it's a decent read if you liked the first book but it doesn't appeal to me.

This was my first time reading an audio book, and I've discovered they are absolutely not my thing. Unfortunately, I do think that impacted my rating of the book itself. It was incredibly difficult for me to get immersed in the story. I think the pacing of audio books is just too slow for me.
In terms of the book itself, I despised every character. I did not find myself caring too deeply about any of them. Additionally, I found the book to be quite predictable.
Overall, this was a tough book to get through, and there were multiple times where I just wanted to stop listening. Now that I'm writing this, I think I need to change the rating to a 1/5 rather than a 2/5.
