2000ace's review against another edition

I have the 1895 edition of this book, but no matter: these stories never grow old and they never go out of date. Children need to hear the stories of the Tin Soldier, the Little Match Girl, the Ice Queen, the Ugly Duckling and, well, you get the picture. Real fairy tales, the kind that the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen told, don't always have happy endings. Instead, they instruct and console and edify and uplift. I still pull this book out and read its crumbling pages from time to time. These stories are keepers.
