I liked this more than I thought I would, but I’m not entirely sure why. I wasn’t a huge fan of Lily, and while Lo was a bit more tolerable, I still didn’t like him either. I DID like the supporting characters. But what I liked the most was the gritty feel, the realism. After reading a lot of romance, it can be nice to have a strong shot of people doing messed-up shit.
This isn’t a story of two people overcoming their addictions with the help of true love. This is the story of two people trying to figure out if the better versions of themselves actually belong together. It’s real… it’s not a fairy tale. These two have enabled each other for a really long time. I’m definitely interested to see how they can make this work in a believable way, but I have hope, because so far everything has been pretty spot-on.
