I had a lot of fun with this book, and I love that Ms. Robinson is a local author. The writing was solid and the storytelling was extremely fun. It really made me want to help out my local independent bookstore. I'll definitely read this author again when I'm looking for something cozy!

I finished my second book of the year earlier this morning š I am now on track for my 1 book a month goal for 2023 š„°
I give this book āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø as I related to Maggie in so many ways. + who doesnāt love an āimpracticalā romance sandwiched in between secret book club meetings, snooping, and uncovering age old mysteries?! Thereās also a feeling of activism, mentioning of Black voices, etc throughout the book. As a 28 yr old myself, the main character truly spoke to my spirit regarding where I am in life vs where society says I should be at this age. I love that Maggie uncovered for herself, her true calling so that she could work within her passion vs work for a paycheck.
Maggie is biracial as well, her bestie is in an interracial relationship, her bestie is a dark skinned Black woman, her love interest in the book has locs, etc.
I do think that the book ended kind of unrealistically with everyone waving the white flag at once and truces being formed. But I love that Maggie is a risk taker, impulsive, and has āzig zagā thinking as they say in the book. Not everyone things in linear ways and thatās okay and Iām glad to see that represented in a book.

This was cute and fun. Itās right up a booktokkers alley.
I felt like the book shot out of the gate as soon as Maggie started doing different stuff with the bookshop rather than what was expect. I was loving it. After the āmobā went to confront Bell and the investors, it felt kind of slow. It felt a little like Maggie got off easy with Rochelle and Malcolm. It definitely felt like Bellās grandson got off easy.
Overall, a very cute read.
The book club was amazing. I wish I was in that kind of book club in real life. I loved Vernon being a grump, but super into the book club. I really liked all the characters (except for Bell).
