Well, I don’t know what I was expecting from Diablo but Cora blew me away anyways! Brats are NOT my cup-o-tea but Diablo is such a little chaos gremlin that he keeps you thoroughly entertained. Skylar has the patience of a saint, I swear! Their dynamic is definitely interesting but they are clearly made for each other.
I’m excited to see who’s next! Ben? Angelo? ANTHONY? Who am I kidding, I will read literally anything Cora writes lol.

Diablo is book 7 of the Unexpected series, I have not read the first 6 books of this series, this being my first read from Cora Rose. When I started reading Diablo I was expecting a gay erotica, heavy on the spice and light to no plot, a quick and light read. The spice is definitely there, heavy, creative and deliciously so. What I was not expecting was the endearing plot hidden behind all the action. The story is very slow to get to anything else besides spice, if you blink you may even miss it, but it is there. I did not find this to be an easy and light read, as I expected, partly because I would get bored and put it down for longer than I normally do when reading, and partly after finding the plot I was a little shocked to the path the journey took.
The two main characters, Diablo and Skyler are semi-likeable, started out liking them, then halfway through realized that they were not going to really develop more facets to their character, each of their personalities falling flat and predictable. Diablo was too much of his main character trait and Skylar was too little of his.

I almost died laughing when the emotionless, neglectful mafia boss dad was all of a sudden like "it's ok to be vulnerable son, I love you" lmao stop. Diablo should have had to kill the dad to be with Skylar
Diablos immaturity was just too over the top. I couldn’t get passed it. I didn’t actually like either character. Which sucks. Will skip over to Ben.
I liked this to a point but it was just too shallow for me.
We don't really get to know anything about Skylar. He goes from being adamant nothing will happen between him and Diablo to then embarking on a physical relationship - there was no real reasoning for the switch in thinking?
I enjoyed how bratty Diablo was to begin, but it got repetitive very quickly and went on too long before anything started to change. Again all we find out is he likes to use his saws and play his game, but we already knew that much from previous books. Is he truly a psychopath or just a socially awkward fan of dismemberment?
Really I just would have liked to get to know the characters better. Why do I care if they're together when I know nothing about either of them individually?
Also the whole 'bad guy' situation didn't feel believable at all, and resolved so quickly. If Diablo was capable of what he did, why did he ever need the bodyguard or safe houses? It just didn't make much sense to me.
This series is definitely hit and miss.

Now what in the hell was this? This was so messy. Diablo acts like a petulant child and is so annoying and I’m honestly concerned why Skyler likes that at all. There’s no way a 30 year old man should be interested in someone acting like that. Huge red flag. This was icky!!! No!!!!
