What I did appreciate about this book was that it’s one of the very few LGBTQ+ why-choose romances I’ve been able to find. And I think there was a lot of potential in the plot that just was never fully executed, but the potential was fun.
The only thing that would push me to read book 2 is that the market for this genre is so limited, and I do care about a handful of the characters (mainly Eli) but I’m not sure if I can deal with more of the cons to get to those few brief glimmers of promise.
Graphic: Emotional abuse, Fire/Fire injury, Murder, Sexual content, Sexual harassment, Sexual violence, Violence, Injury/Injury detail, Gore, Self harm, Sexual assault, and Torture
Minor: Infertility and Pedophilia

The Price Of Silence is everything I needed in a queer urban fantasy romance! The plot and characters hooked me from the jump, but I got a good sense of who the main character Rosie was before the action got going.
The way Elle Mae writes sapphic romance and sex is a breath of fresh air. Yes, the characters’ sexual tension is immaculate and their smut scenes are smoking hot- but they also act like real people. I think that’s where The Price of Silence truly shines. The character’s longing, fears, and desires on the page are relatable in such a human way.
That’s why I’ll be heading back to Winterfell Academy for book 2!
