A beautiful and delightful tale. Truly was a joy to read and I imagine I will read it many times over

Sometimes you have to power through but it’s worth it!

The first time I read this book, as a teenager, it cut me to the quick. Each time I have read it since, I have found it has drawn me deeper into the heart of God and shown me my own heart more clearly. Love this book, a definite favourite of mine.

An aggressively fine Christian allegory, though maybe not the most theologically sound.

Does contain some ableist language (just of its time, or of the get-healed-by-faith variety, I can't decide), and turns out from reading Hurnard's short autobiography at the end she might have been kinda anti-Semitic? (She hears God's call to do mission work in Haifa, and is like, "but I don't even like the Jews!" Though she does go and work in Israel for decades.)

So. Good. Marked to be reread.

This was a neat book. I did not give it 4 stars because it seemed a little tedious at times. I read the version with meditations so that might have slowed it down for me a bit. But, I enjoyed this allegory and felt it was spot on to someone's search in life.
