Twist (Dive Bar 2) by Kylie Scott
Narrated by Andi Arndt
Contemporary Romance. Stands alone easily. 2nd in an interrelated series.
I love Kylie Scott’s writing so I won’t miss a book that she writes. I loved the Stage Dive Series, and really enjoyed Dirty, so I was hoping that Twist would bring me back to the love I felt for Mal. While I enjoyed the story a lot, it was a unique, sweet, sexy and fun story with some big emotions, it just didn’t make me swoon and want to gush about it. But still, Twist was a solidly enjoyable read.

From the Blurb:
When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they're emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets... apart from the one that really matters.

When Alex hasn’t heard from “Eric”, the guy she has been chatting online with for months (in a platonic way), she decides to fly in and show up to surprise him for his birthday. “Eric” was gorgeous and just Alex’s type, so she wouldn’t mind it becoming more.

Only when she shows up at the bar, Eric acts like a total douche and has no clue who she is. Mortified, Alex finds out his big, hairy, beast of a brother Joe has been catfishing her by pretending to be Eric.
"His golden mane flowed down over his wide shoulders, a beard covering the bottom half of his face. I guess it kept him warm in the winter, but seriously. Who needed that much hair?"

Completely mortified that this happened, she runs out into the rain just as she is getting sick.
“I wondered how long it would take for this whole little adventure to turn into some funny story I told people. Except no part of me was amused. Not even a single cell. My Eric, the beautiful man from the Internet, didn’t exist. Not really. Because the guy who’d charmed me with long, rambling emails about life and everything was a liar. And everyone knew, you couldn’t trust a liar.”

Alex is not only completely embarrassed and ashamed she fell for it, but she is devastated she lost someone who has become one of her closest friends.
”I know it must feel like you don't know me, but you do. It was just a couple of details. But the person talking to you, that was me."

When Joe tracks Alex down to apologize, he finds her with a horrible case of the flu, all alone in a strange city, and spends days nursing her back to health.
"Once my guard was down, due to complete and utter exhaustion, Joe had cuddled me. It was terrible, disgusting. Fingers caressing me, lips pressing soft kisses to my shoulder and the back of my neck. Normally I'd never allow it, but it felt so good."

I loved the way his personality shined through so much that suddenly Joe, who was totally not someone she was attracted to at the beginning became the hottest guy ever.
“When it came to Joe Collins, my pussy was a wanton whore. And seriously, who could blame it? His body was one big beautiful playground. There wasn’t an inch of him I didn’t want to explore.”

Likes:

  • •Fun and light-hearted.

  • •A surprise appearance from someone special.

  • •Visiting with the Dive Bar crew from Dirty.

  • •Such a modern, pop-culture theme.

  • •Some emotional moments.

  • •The characters felt very real and flawed.

  • •Her friend Valerie.

  • •How they talked and got to know each other.

Dislikes:

  • •The additional drama at the end wasn’t necessary, and took away a bit of my love for him and the book in general.

  • •Nowadays, who chats online for months without ever facetiming or skyping?

  • •Wish we had his POV.

Narration:

And Arndt was as good as always, but it was just her. And quite honestly, I'd really like to hear someone else for a change. There was no male POV.

The Down & Dirty:

I really enjoyed Twist by Kylie Scott. I absolutely loved the unique and modern theme of being catfished, though nowadays it’s hard to believe they never video chatted or sent goofy photos of themselves on the spot. I loved the fact that both characters were very real and very flawed. There was some drama at the end that I could have done without and I think I would have enjoyed the book more. I really dislike Eric, and I am not sure it’s possible to redeem him in my eyes so I will be holding out on that until I read some reviews.

Chaser releases April 2018

I feel like it has been a long wait for this book but oh my was it worth the wait. I loved the story, it was different to anything I have read before. Joe what a man, , big bearded and tattooed and a hard worked who will do anything for his friends and family and is very outgoing. Alex in contrast is more of a stay at home gal, who runs her own business.

The story starts with Alex taking a chance and hopping on a plane to see her online dating man who she thinks is his brother. Alex hates liars so this turns her world upside down, what happens next is a series of great interactions between the two.

This book has great humour, it is very well written and keeps you wanting to read the book until the end. It also delivers on emotion making you feel both highs and lows during the story. All I can say is that it was worth the wait and I cant wait to read the last book in this series

Both of the characters are unlikable...
It started out interesting, but then it went downhill.
The FMC is dumb and spineless, and the MMC was a jerk.
You write emails to someone for months, and not once try to call or skype? And then they stop communicating with you and you decide to FLY to meet them?
You get some super cold and instead of seeking medical help you let some stranger who lied to you and whose brother humiliated you take care of you?
Joe never even properly apologised for what he did, he tried to place the blame on her.
He basically said "You're not my type, but it was easy to talk to you, and I'm lonely so I did it", and that's how the whole relationship feels.
Also, hate it when authors write the "waitress ignores/is rude to the woman and blatantly flirts with the man " scenes.....

Other than the fact this book should come with a trigger warning on (side character) pregnancy loss, this book was amazing. Loved the banter and the tension. The last quarter was a bit hard to get through but the first 75% was fantastic.

I may have liked this a little better than the first..my only issue was some seemingly unnecessary drama towards the end. I know people love to throw that in there but idk, it didn’t feel quite right.

When Alex Parks enters the Dive Bar, ready to congratulate her online friend on his birthday, she does not expect for him to not know who she is. Even less, she does not expect his older brother, who looks nothing like him to be the one who has been messaging her for months.
Joe Collins, with the intent of shutting down his brother's dating page, sees Alex and can't help himself. He contact her, thus beginning an online relationship for months.
Things are a mess but with twist after twist, rocking their new relationship, Alex and Joe are in for a wild ride that they might not survive.

I'm going to say it now, loud and clear for everyone, Joe Collins is my favourite of all time. The looks, the attitude, the cockiness, the hard edges, the soft edges and everything in between. Sure, he as some faults but I'm mature enough to look past it.
For once, I loved the heroine, she was real and strong and went for what she wanted with no shame. I loved Alex too.
My only problem was the ending, I wanted more and did not want the book to end.

Don't really have strong feeling for it but it was so good! The banter even as friends was really cute and entertaining and Joe was hot! Could've been more spice after they mentioned doing certain stuff and then never did them but still really good

This one was cute. I really liked Alex and everyone should love Val. Her sass was so entertaining.

I have been impatiently waiting for this book for, what seems like, forever. So much so that I kept convincing myself that it was coming out sooner than it actually was. To say I was excited to finally have the book on my kindle would be an understatement.

I'm still kicking myself for not taking the time to read Kylie Scott sooner than the start of this series. These are the types of books that got me started reading and that help me avoid reading slumps. I'm not one for stories made up of too much angst, but I love when I can feel the emotions between two characters so much that it makes me cry. This is NOT a crying book but it's a well-written one and those tend to do me in more than I'd like to admit.

Joe and Alex's relationship started out under false pretenses and quickly morphed into a easy friendship with undertones of an attraction between two people doing their best to not indulge.

I absolutely fell ass over teakettle with Joe. I'm a sucker for the nice guys, what can I say. The way he needed to make up for his deceit to Alex from the very beginning, the caring way he took care of her while she was sick, his insecurities about Eric, how he showed Alex just how strong she could really be, all of it. He was everything.

Honestly, I kind of fell just as hard for Alex. She was insecure and angry about being played but she wasn't so blinded by those things that she wouldn't open up to moving past it all and recognizing that the friendship her and Joe had established was worth a second chance.

Much like the first book, the build up to them becoming 'more' was slow and steady, yet somehow fast at the same time. Once they finally gave into their attraction, there wasn't a whole lot holding them back.

It wasn't all rainbows and roses however, and there's a section of the book where some things happened that I was totally not expecting. Looking back though, it was everything I didn't even realize I was hoping for. And just when I expected some drama between them for one reason, a new reason pops up that had me ready to pop Joe in his sexy lumberjack face. Luckily that's when Alex's real strength showed up and she handled things like a boss.

I'm really loving this series and with each new unexpected twist I get more excited about the next book. I can't wait to catch up to Eric and see him get knocked down a few pegs.

Bearded man, check!

Sensitive when needed, check!

Has everything that could be to good to he true, check!

Joe Collins is LIFE! Or he was until I got to see my man Mal.. I mean come on seeing any of the Stage Dive crew is ah-mazing!

I love Kylie's books, I simply devour them all and I always want more after I am done. They are realistic to a fault and most situations I could see them happening right in front of me.

Joe and Alex are explosive together and in a humorous way. He evens out her awkwardness and she toughens him in a way that he needs most. Some things that Alex does and how she talks just makes me laugh especially towards the end of the book.

There isn't many raw parts except for two and I teared up for both because it broke my heart to pieces. I hurt because they were hurting its as simple as that.

I would definitely tell others about this series, hell I tell who I can about books. Maybe I'll share the Stage Dive guys soon...possibly not but there's a chance right?

I cannot wait for Chaser to come out! I need Eric's story I was curious about him and now that I know he is getting a book I want it like yesterday!
