Labiríntico no pior sentido. No entanto, a autora mostra o suficiente para querer ler-lhe outras obras.

Bizarre and beautiful. I enjoyed the ride, but not for everyone.

An astonishing thing, that Lispector published this book when she was 23. There are some parts that felt like traditional Lispector revelation:

"And she could also wait for the instant that was coming … coming ... and without warning plowed into present and suddenly dissolved .. and another that was coming ... coming …"

But other parts made me remember that mean Flannery O'Connor quote:

"One of the most common and saddest spectacles is that of a person of really fine sensibility and acute psychological perception trying to write fiction by using these qualities alone. This type of writer will put down one intensely emotional or keenly perceptive sentence after the other, and the result will be complete dullness."

Later Lispector is more bound up in bodies, while this one floats too long in thoughts for my taste. But still, what a writer!

I could not tell if this was a book or a 200 page long poem, but I enjoyed it regardless. The prose is written in a masterful way, and the characterization was incredible. I am awestruck by this novel, especially given the fact that is a debut novel. However, this book does suffer from White Room Syndrome which also creates problems throughout with pacing, since characters frequently appear in different settings with little warning (this is why I took away a star). Despite this issue, I can see myself reading it again and again
