This was a really fascinating book. It was a totally new theme. I picked it up looking for some romance to diversify my shelf, but it turned out to be a whole different thing.

I had heard of Erich Segal and now I came to love him, or rather, his writing. There were a few short spans of dullness but not too great. All the emotions portrayed are amazing. A really short read but really worth it. I've gotta say, I haven't read anything like this before.

Hopefully I will try more Erich Segal soon.

jean-claude!!! my heart hurts for this character so much and he was so incredibly endearing from start to finish. i think that segal captured the emotions so well but also in a very simplistic manner. i liked this book even more than love story and really admire the complexity of the family dynamics as well as the marriage between sheila and bob. some readers might find it cheesy but it was published in the 80s so you have to approach reading it through that lens to fully enjoy segal's brilliance! i'd recommend but only if you like the genre & reading about the messiness of an american family.
