The story was great but dragged in parts and many scenes were unnecessarily long. I disliked all the villain monologues. I think they're cheesy. And I often found the way the author went about exposition to be very dull. But the characters were likeable and the plot was cool. I'm hopeful that the sequels will be more natural.

A fun romp through a haunted house on a dying planet - with bonus skeletons!

I had a feel small quibbles:

- Sometimes it was hard to keep track of everyone given the way names and titles were used interchangeably
- The persistent use of ‘ass’ and ‘butt’ felt out of step with the mood of the book.
- Strange use of ‘emasculate’ more than once in relatively close proximity.

Overall though, I thought this was eminently readable and pleasantly different. I don’t know if I’m sufficiently engaged to read the rest of the series, but I had a good time regardless.
