Genuinely the best non-fiction *anything* I've read. Montell explains linguistic tradition in such an accessible way, and opens up the most interesting analyses. It made me think, and then it made me go out and recommend it to literally everyone I interacted with for at least two weeks after finishing it. The fact that it manages the complexities of things so integral to the human experience as language, gender and thought is so impressive.
