Really good! This book felt more like a Nightrunner book than its immediate predecessor, but it still isn't quite as good, in my eyes, as the first two books in the series. I think I've accepted at this point that nothing will top Stalking Darkness for me. It's not only the best in the series so far, but one of my favorite fantasy books of all time. This was a really good installment in the series, though. I'm always happy to see Lynn Flewelling's excellent mix of high-stakes adventure and nuanced emotional growth. I continue to appreciate that Alec and Seregil are constantly being challenged as characters, and that their relationship isn't perfect. They fight. They disagree. But they communicate, and I love to see that. Am excited for the final two books in the series! As is Flewelling's pattern, I imagine they might be one complete arc.

I was a little let down with this last one mostly because I really liked Sebrahn. I wanted there to be more about him!! Nonetheless Flewelling delivers with the darkness and grittiness, in an incredibly satisfying way. I am unclear if this is the last one or if there will be more! I really hope there is another one: I feel a little like she left us hanging with how the story ends!) I WANT MORE.

Really liked the world building in this one. Getting a further glimpse into the rhekaro and Alec's people was really neat.

This is technically part two to Shadows Return, and it feels a lot tamer as a result since our characters aren't in such dire circumstances as they were before. They still have a lot going on, what with Sebrahn and people chasing after them and having the person who sold them down the river (or across the sea) out looking for ways to screw them over again, so there's no end to challenges for them to go up against. But I found myself not as engaged as I have been to prior books. Part of that is trying to follow in the footsteps of Shadows Return, which is a tough act to follow. And part of that is that the plot just isn't as interesting to me.

It didn't help that
Ulan died in peace and was sent home a hero, with no one knowing what he was attempting to do and how he used Alec for his selfish desire to continue living past his natural time.
It was too good an end for that character, and while it might be depressingly realistic, I'm not reading fantasy for realism.

The stuff we learn about the Hâzad and why they broke off from the other faie was interesting, I just wish we didn't have to learn deal with the Hâzad while we were learning it. I enjoyed having Micum along for the journey, and it was fun to see Thero for the little amount of time he was on page. I'll be glad when the guys return to Rhiminee and get back to business as usual.

Der fünfte Band der Nightrunner-Reihe und er hat mir tatsächlich viel besser als sein Vorgänger gefallen. Spannend und die Charaktere durften sich endlich wieder frei bewegen. Yay!

Summer reading book reviews, book #9, "The White Road" by Lynn Flewelling.... This is the fifth Nightrunner novel, and, as with all of the series thus far, I enjoyed it very much. Indeed, I liked it even better than books three and four. I do not claim that the Nightrunner books are great literature, but I have derived great pleasure from them. I am captivated by the characters, and it will be a challenge to make myself save the remaining two books to read when our family is on vacation.

Please don't ever ask me to form a coherent thought about these books because it's always just crying or screaming or both just know that I love these boys and would die for them.
