A definite 4.5. I may revise after I think about this one for a while.

This felt like a short story collection more than a novel. Sometimes I was into it; other times, I wasn’t. I get how the women were all linked, but it felt a little disjointed. The ending felt forced to come full circle. Not sure why the timelines jumped around so much. Also unsure why - if we heard every family member’s pov - why was Cecilia left out? Or do I just not remember that chapter?

Beautiful, poetic writing style. Beautiful, heartbreaking, and resonating portrayal of generational trauma amongst women and the cost of not sharing your story and the reasons for the choices you make with your children.

Beautifully written stories that lit moved me so much 😩😩😩 I don’t remember anything about Cuban revolution and Castro from school so I liked this intimate insight through pov of women! Have to say tho the jumping from diff timelines and locations was low-key jarring cause I could never remember the dates I had read before ! Otherwise a must read !!!!
