Karl Pilkington and I are kindred spirits in that we both don't tend to be impressed by what is commonly thought to be impressive. I find it quite refreshing that someone is completely honest about his travels instead of simply saying what everyone else does. I'd already seen the tv series it accompanies, so there was quite a lot of overlap for me, but there were some bits and pieces that were new. All of it was funny though.

I love a bit of alternative travel writing, where someone DOESN'T enjoy something for once. I've often felt let down by certain sights, and Karl has a way of expressing these thoughts in a very funny way. Best if you've seen the TV show as well as it adds some further narrative to the episodes.

It has been a long time since I watched An Idiot Abroad and to be honest, a bit of the humor truly hasn't aged well. A bit misogynistic, racist, offensive, distasteful, etc. It really goes to show that time passes and how we communicate our experiences change.
I also was getting very frustrated with Ricky and Stephen pressuring Karl into doing things he didnt want to do. Of course he signed up to be on the show but they were condescending and rude when he would say no. I now understand why Karl seemed to go back to his normal life after a while. Those are not real friends.
It isnt all bad though! I enjoyed travelling around the world in this book and following Karl's perspective on what he was either made or chose to do.
It's a really easy and quick read and not very invasive or taxing on the mind. However careful of outdated offensive humor.
