Not my favorite of the series, but still had some good exposition and plot to carry us to the final book. I think there were honestly way too many characters to follow during this, and I feel like I kinda lost the plot several times. But the end was great with enough of a cliffhanger to get you excited for the next book. So much space politics! I miss John and Jane and Zoe, but happy to follow some new folks.

This book, while somewhat entertaining, is a complete disappointment. It's genesis as a serialization shows through, and has no cohesive storyline. The plot is weak and disjointed, and Scalzi spends too much time telling, instead of showing.

A exposition heavy book expanding on the politics and drama. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel with the episode premise. I can really imagine them as tv shows.

There isn't much action in the novel but when there is, it doesn't waste any moment. Gone are the small skirmish here comes Hollywood level drama action endings and funny one liners.

Once again I love the characters the diplomats from the union and earth, Harry and Hart's synergy, the conclave and how each characters is represented and their part in the mystery.

Really fun book to read strong 4

Im Gegensatz den ersten Bänden der "Old Mans War" Serie ist dieser Teil eher eine Kurzgeschichtensammlung mit einer übergreifenden Hauptstory. Perry/Sagan wurden durch Harry Wilson und seinem Kumpel Schmidt ausgetauscht und das Buch hat einen starken Fokus auf Diplomatie.
Leider Leider ist halt nicht jede Geschichte interessant. Und die die es sind sind dann vorbei wenn sie gut werden. Im Nachhinein blieben mir von von dem ca 13 Episoden vielleicht 3-4 gut in Erinnerung (The Dog King war ein Highlight), der Rest schien eher nur Beiwerk.
Alles in allem: Solide, aber ich fürchte inzwischen lese ich die Reihe nur noch weil ein Ende in Sicht ist.
