I wanted to like it. The world was interesting, and the characters had potential, but it fell flat to me. I didn't connect with any of them. I didn't agree with their decisions and I couldn't make myself like Harmony. I can fully appreciate how others would enjoy this book, but it wasn't for me.

A very good book! The characters are unique and likeable. There is a powerful female team at the head of the unit and the representation does not feel forced. The author has a knack for making you feel a part of the story. You feel with the protagonists, you are invested in the outcome and it truly kept me engaged throughout the whole book. I definitely recommend this one for readers who like paranormal suspense books.

I found this book because my husband had read, via Kindle Unlimited, and it was sitting in our KU library when I went to swap my book for another. I read the synopsis and was very enthralled.

I have to say sometimes husband and I have the same taste in books and sometimes we don't. I wasn't sure if that was going to be one of those "don't" times.

Well, it wasn't! I am in love with this book and already can tell that I will be in love with this series. It may sound odd but as soon as he described one of the side characters who is a huge World of Warcraft enthusiast I was hooked. I know it sounds odd, but yes that one character wanted me to keep reading. This doesn't mean I did not love the characters, I did. The main character Harmony is very delightful. I found a likeness, of myself that is, in her. I'm not sure what it was specifically, but I found her to be calming and familiar in that sense.

Many of the other side chapters have great lines, and are well rounded. The world building in this book was well done too. Yes it is basically just the every day world but with the characters and creatures that Schaefer has created it is so much more. I enjoyed his idea for the "bad guy" in this installment of the series. The concept of a real life/other worldly Bogeyman is fascinating and was well done.

I could keep going on and on about this book but then I would start giving it all away. I don't want to do that, but I do want to encourage you to go try it. Now, go go!!!

Not bad

This was a fun book. It had a little bit of everything, love, loss, fantasy, crime. I wasn’t so thrilled that I need to read a follow up but I’m not angry that I read it.

I liked this a lot more than I expected to like it. I got it from Kindle First and usually the books I get there aren't great (maybe two over the years have been good). But the last three I read have been good, two of them were great. And this is the great start to a new series. Luckily book 2 comes out next week and I've already pre-ordered it. I really liked the main character and loved how well-crafted her world is, in comparison to other books like this one.

Love having another book to read by Craig Schaefer. Not sure about Harmony, although by the end of this, I found myself looking forward to book two. Jury's still out on her.

Fun story

I don't typically read this type of book, but I found myself drawn in quickly. I loved the characters. The magic and imagination kept me hooked. It was a good read and I'm glad I went out on a limb and read something a little different from my "norm".

I'm only reading these Harmony Black novels so I can read the next series and not miss anything. As in the Faust Series, this character is very goody-two-shoes one-dimensional; this is particularly striking in a world with as much nuance as this. Faust as a character fully explores the range of good and bad but this character is just stuck in a fairly generic good cop rut. The story is fine and the world is still interesting but I look forward to going back to Faust.
