Really enjoyed this Kindle Unlimited find. Has a bit of a Dresden Files feel to it which is absolutely a good thing.

I thought this book was really fun to read. I got to read it as part of Amazon's Kindle First program -- didn't even know that was a thing, but yay! I devoured the whole thing in a day because I kept wanting to see what happened next.

It reminded me a lot of the television show Supernatural - and I love Supernatural. And like Supernatural, this book scared the bejeezus out of me, forcing me to sleep with the lights on and annoy my husband. Normal people would not be scared, but I am a delicate flower.

Loved the quirky main character, Harmony Black, along with the teamwork and snarky conversations she had with her work partner, Jessie (Woo hoo - FBI ladies in charge, amiright?) The paranormal elements were fun and spooky (at least, I thought they were spooky.) Only downers were a lame attempt at a romance and some plot elements that fell flat.

It was definitely a fun, easy urban fantasy to read - can't wait for book 2!

Harmony Black book 1

Witch and FBI special agent working to rid the world of monsters. It was interesting and scary. I think I really liked it, but I want to see if I can sleep first.

I can't believe I read a book with supernatural creatures in it. I did and I loved it. Well written, well paced, characters are well realized, satisfying ending. I am not sure I want to get bogged down in a series but I may read #2. Sometimes I wish there were illustrations in books. I could have used a visual of what they were describing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series start. There was plenty to tease you with what was coming next as well as to draw you into the story at hand. I don't know that it's my very favorite fantasy-meets-detective series as I felt sometimes it was a bit lacking in depth, but then again I didn't love the first Dresden book either. I'll definitely be returning to the world of Harmony Black.

I really really liked this book. I chose it from Amazon's Kindle First list one month, and I am so glad I did. I gasped and laughed aloud while reading on my commute, much to the delight of my neighbors on the train. I want to know more about Harmony's psyche, and I want to know more about Jessie's past. I want to know more about April. Kevin, eh. He's pretty transparent. Although there's probably more under the surface. And I really want to know what's up with Cold Spectrum and Linder! I can't wait for more books in the series. I'm so excited to have found a new series to follow!

If you told me I would read a book about the Boogey Man, I'd tell you "no way!" as I still can't watch the DCOM Don't Look Under the Bed from my childhood. But I really enjoy this quirky supernatural off the books FBI team that takes down all of the bad guys. Special Agents Harmony and Jessie are two fairly strong female characters that take care of business on their own. Of course when they need back up they have their team.

I love a good mystery and this book was that! It dragged me in despite it's strange premise. I'm already reading the sequel!

Mini-Review:

A soild start to a new series. It's gritty and has the kind of slap-stick humor of Hellboy. I enjoyed this story more than the one for Faust, but I was not happy to be reminded that the characters are connected. Usually, I think it's really great when an author creates a world and writes stories that link in various ways. This time around, I didn't care for it.

The book came off like a TV show. It was really easy to visualize the sequences and know what was going to happen. I didn't find any of the characters particularly deep but they all stayed true to their setup. I had fun with the book and look forward to seeing what else happens to Harmony Black and her team.
