I really enjoyed it, though at times I thought it was weird that the "Circus" treated Harmony like a new recruit when we were told she'd worked with Variant for 5 years. It just felt a little oddly condescending.
But I am curious about her powers, and about her team. Will definitely read on.

Check out my review here: https://fondlyblog.wordpress.com/2016/03/01/harmony-black-book-review/
I liked this book, although it didn't live up to my expectations. I thought it would be a little more heavy handed with the magic. It was interesting, but I don't know if it gripped me as much as it should to start a series.
THIS BOOK WAS SO FREAKING GOOD!
Okay so I listened to the audio version while at work but then after I finished typing up my reviews and doing other stuff around the house.. well, I switched to the kindle version. I loved the audio but it was hard to listen to it with the tv on, the crazy wind outside, and my dog barking.
Harmony Black was so good! I couldn't put it down (like my phone.. since it was audio/kindle!). Harmony is the MC and she's a bad ass witch.
Who's the villain? The bogeyman.
Was I hooked from the very beginning? Yes, yes I was.
Did I fall in love with a book? Possibly.
Besides loving Harmony's character I really liked Jessie, who worked with her on the children disappearing cases. Jessie was a spitfire. God, the amount of sass that came out of her mouth was so freaking enjoyable. I have a girl crush on her.
Ugh! I need more of this dynamic duo right now! I secretly want to dive into the next book of this series but alas! I have so many other books with me that I need to dive into.
Other than that, there are some creepy paranormal crap going on throughout this book. Geeze the creepy voice just made me cringe and shiver with the creeps. It was good but creepy.
Overall, I really liked this book. No, loved this book. I want more of Harmony and Jessi. Less of the creepy paranormal voice. I want justice. I want her sister back. I WANT MORE!

Fun read, quick. Reminiscent of early Dresden, but with two bad-ass females in place of Harry and Bob the Skull. Looking forward to reading Harmony's further adventures, and catching up on the Daniel Faust series; should be some light summer reading!
Im my opinion these books are extremely dark but maybe not as much as the Daniel Faust series as Harmony is more of a real goody hero rather than the anti hero we seen in Daniel.
I will say this the author knows how to weave a tale were every person is a suspect and every lead unravels a bit of the tapestry hiding the safe and it is ingeniously done. Maybe a little to dark for me, also that is involving kids put me off rushing out to buy next book...
my personal preference though, still i enjoyed the writing and the thought process behind the characters and reveals.

This book sat on my virtual shelf for many months - the cover didn't appeal to me so I bypassed it many times when starting a new book. But as they say, you can't judge a book by its cover - this was a great, quick read. Mixing the supernatural with a fast paced crime thriller, I really enjoyed this and read it in just over a day or so, then immediately bought the second book in the series. Some violence and gore, but if that doesn't bother you, I would recommend this one.
Okay, it didn't actually take me as long as it says to read this. I put it down during our move.. and eventually got back to it over a month later. In all, I'd say I read this in two days. It was that good. Compelling and action packed. I adore Jessie. Her dynamic with Harmony makes my entire life brighter. Somehow I managed to buy the first and third books in the series, so I'll have to rectify that soon because I need more!
Cop procedural with a supernatural twist. Schaefer writes a well-crafted mystery with engaging characters. I look forward to book 2.
This book was this month's Kindle First Reads selection. If you haven't heard of those free books, get on that! Harmony Black is the first book in the Harmony Black book, about a witch who is also an FBI agent. This book has her join up into a special supernatural unit with three other people. The story for this volume is battling the Boogyman, who comes out every so many years and steals kids, including Harmony's own sister when she was a baby. We also get introduced to the backstory, showing that there's more to the underground and shadow organizations than even her new team knew. If you liked X-Files, you'll like this, as it's got the conspiracy theory thing, along with the episodic creature people to solve each time. Plus, Harmony is supposed to be kind of straight-laced and although she knew about her powers most of her life, is just now going to be seeing them grow. Sounds like Anita Blake before those books turned into plot-less giant orgies. I'm excited about this series, & even want to check out others by this author, such as the Faust series that Harmony was a small part spin off character from.
